A2 motorway (Belgium)

The A2 motorway is a major motorway in Belgium, connecting the city of Leuven to the Dutch border near Maastricht. It is part of the European route E314.

The A2 begins in Leuven at the interchange with the R0 ring road. It then proceeds eastward through Flanders, passing near the cities of Aarschot, Diest, and Genk. The motorway then crosses into Limburg province, where it continues eastward towards the Dutch border.

The motorway provides a crucial link between central Belgium and the Netherlands, facilitating both passenger and freight traffic. It is generally a dual carriageway with at least two lanes in each direction, and in some sections, three.

The A2 is known for experiencing congestion during peak hours, particularly around Leuven and Genk. Several improvement projects have been undertaken over the years to address these issues, including widening sections of the motorway and improving junction layouts.

The numbering of the motorway changes to the A76 upon crossing the border into the Netherlands.
