HMS Avon (K97)
HMS Avon (K97) was a River-class frigate of the Royal Navy. She served during the Second World War, primarily as a convoy escort in the North Atlantic. Built by Blyth Shipbuilding Company, she was launched on 19 February 1942 and commissioned on 28 July 1942. Her main role was protecting merchant shipping from U-boat attacks. HMS Avon was involved in several engagements with German submarines, contributing to the overall Allied effort to maintain vital supply lines. Following the war, she was sold into mercantile service and renamed Akti. Her eventual fate is recorded as being scrapped in 1967.
