HMCS Winnipeg (J337)

HMCS Winnipeg (J337) was a Bangor-class minesweeper that served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. She was commissioned on 22 November 1942 in Vancouver, British Columbia.

As a Bangor-class minesweeper, Winnipeg was designed for duties that included clearing mines, anti-submarine patrols, and convoy escort. These ships were relatively small and versatile, making them useful for a variety of naval tasks.

During the war, Winnipeg served primarily in the North Atlantic, escorting convoys across the ocean and protecting them from U-boat attacks. She also participated in mine-clearing operations. Winnipeg contributed to the Allied war effort by helping to maintain crucial supply lines between North America and Europe.

Following the end of the Second World War, Winnipeg was paid off on 27 August 1945 and subsequently sold for scrap. While no longer in service, the ship is remembered as one of many Canadian naval vessels that played a vital role in the Allied victory.
