Miami Vice (film)
Miami Vice is a 2006 American neo-noir action thriller film directed by Michael Mann. It is an adaptation of the 1980s television series of the same name, which Mann also executive produced. The film stars Colin Farrell as James "Sonny" Crockett and Jamie Foxx as Ricardo "Rico" Tubbs, who are undercover detectives working for the Miami-Dade Police Department.
The plot revolves around Crockett and Tubbs as they go undercover to infiltrate a South American drug trafficking network. They are tasked with identifying and stopping the flow of drugs into Miami, as well as uncovering a mole within the police force. Their investigation leads them into a dangerous world of international crime, involving ruthless drug lords, arms dealers, and money launderers. Crockett becomes romantically involved with Isabella, a Chinese-Cuban economic and financial advisor to the drug cartel, adding another layer of complexity to their already perilous mission.
Unlike the more stylized and brightly colored aesthetic of the original television series, the film adopts a more realistic and gritty tone, focusing on authenticity and the psychological toll of undercover work. The film employs high-definition digital cinematography, emphasizing a sleek and modern visual style.
Despite being highly anticipated, Miami Vice received mixed reviews upon its release. While some critics praised the film's visuals, action sequences, and performances, others criticized its complex plot and perceived lack of character development. The film was a moderate box office success, grossing over $164 million worldwide against a production budget of approximately $135 million.
