Friendship (2008 film)
Friendship! is a 2008 German road trip comedy film directed by Markus Goller and starring Matthias Schweighöfer and Friedrich Mücke.
The film tells the story of two young German men, Veit (Schweighöfer) and Tom (Mücke), who embark on a journey to New York City in 1989, shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Veit is driven by a personal quest: to find his father, whom he believes is living in America. Tom accompanies him, more interested in the adventure and the possibilities that America offers.
Their journey takes them across the United States, from New York City to San Francisco, encountering various comedic and often absurd situations. They experience cultural clashes, meet eccentric characters, and learn about each other and themselves. Along the way, they grapple with the differences between East and West Germany, and the allure and challenges of freedom and opportunity.
The film explores themes of friendship, identity, reconciliation, and the search for belonging. It also provides a humorous and nostalgic look at the late 1980s and the changes occurring in Germany and the world at that time.
