Tom Dutton (American football)
Tom Dutton (born January 10, 1950) is a former American football player and coach. He played college football at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln as a defensive lineman.
Dutton was a consensus All-American in 1972 and won the Outland Trophy that same year, awarded to the best interior lineman in college football. He helped lead the Nebraska Cornhuskers to national championships in 1970 and 1971. Dutton was known for his exceptional strength and quickness on the defensive line.
Following his collegiate career, Dutton was drafted by the Baltimore Colts in the fifth round of the 1973 NFL Draft. His professional playing career was cut short due to injuries.
After his playing career ended, Dutton transitioned into coaching. He held various coaching positions at both the college and professional levels, primarily working with defensive lines. His coaching stops included assistant positions with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Philadelphia Eagles, and the University of Nebraska. He also served as the head coach of the Frankfurt Galaxy in NFL Europe.
Dutton is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, inducted in 1994. He is considered one of the greatest defensive linemen in Nebraska Cornhuskers history.
