E02 expressway (Sri Lanka)

The E02 expressway, also known as the Outer Circular Highway or the Outer Colombo Ring Road, is a major expressway in Sri Lanka. It forms part of the larger Colombo bypass road network designed to alleviate traffic congestion within the capital city. The E02 connects key entry points to Colombo, allowing traffic to bypass the city center.

The expressway's primary function is to link the Southern Expressway (E01) and the Katunayake Expressway (E03), providing a faster and more efficient route for vehicles traveling between the south, the airport, and other regions without passing through the heavily congested city center.

The E02 features multiple lanes in each direction and utilizes a closed toll system, where users pay based on the distance travelled. Access is controlled through designated entry and exit points. The construction of the E02 has significantly reduced travel times for inter-city journeys and contributed to improved traffic flow around Colombo. The expressway plays a vital role in the country's transportation infrastructure and economic development.
