Benskin
Benskin was a regional brewery based in Watford, Hertfordshire, England. Established in 1721 by William Benskin, the brewery remained in the Benskin family for generations and became a significant employer in the local area.
Benskin's became known for its distinct range of beers, including milds, bitters, and stouts, which were primarily distributed throughout Hertfordshire and the surrounding counties. Over time, the brewery expanded its operations and acquired numerous pubs and tied houses, further solidifying its presence in the region.
In 1957, Benskin's merged with Ind Coope, another prominent brewing company. The combined entity became part of the larger Allied Breweries group in 1961. Although the Benskin's name continued to be used for some beers and pubs for a period, brewing at the Watford site eventually ceased in 1972. The Benskin's name and heritage are still sometimes evoked nostalgically in the Watford area, particularly in connection with local pubs that once bore the brewery's branding. The Benskin's Brewery site was redeveloped for other uses.
