Französische Straße (Berlin U-Bahn)
Französische Straße was a Berlin U-Bahn station on line U6. It was located under the street of the same name, Französische Straße, in the central Mitte district of Berlin. The station opened on January 30, 1923, as part of the extension of the U6 (then called the C line) from Friedrichstraße to Hallesches Tor.
The station was designed by Heinrich Jennen and featured distinctive tilework in shades of yellow and gray. It had a central platform serving trains in both directions.
Französische Straße station closed permanently on December 4, 2020. This closure was necessitated by the construction of the new U5 extension between Alexanderplatz and Hauptbahnhof. The new U5 line included a station, Unter den Linden, which provides connections to both the U6 and U2 lines. Unter den Linden station is located approximately 200 meters away from the former Französische Straße station, rendering the latter redundant. The proximity made operating both stations inefficient and the decision was made to close Französische Straße.
