Terry Gou
Terry Gou (郭台銘, Guō Táimíng, born October 18, 1950) is a Taiwanese businessman, best known as the founder and former chairman of Foxconn (Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd.). Foxconn is the world's largest electronics manufacturer and a major supplier for companies like Apple, Google, and Amazon.
Gou established Hon Hai in 1974 with a small sum of money and ten veteran workers. Initially, the company focused on manufacturing television components. Over time, he transformed Foxconn into a global electronics manufacturing powerhouse, employing hundreds of thousands of people worldwide.
Gou has been a prominent figure in Taiwanese politics and business, often making public pronouncements on economic and political matters. He is known for his aggressive management style and his focus on efficiency and cost control within Foxconn.
In 2019, Gou stepped down as chairman of Foxconn to focus on his political aspirations. He unsuccessfully sought the Kuomintang (KMT) nomination for the 2020 Taiwanese presidential election. He also explored a run as an independent candidate but ultimately withdrew. In 2023, he announced his independent bid for the 2024 Taiwanese presidential election but later withdrew before the election took place. Gou remains a significant investor and influencer within the Foxconn group.
