Francis Bacon (Ipswich MP)
Francis Bacon (1600 – 1663) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1645 and 1660, representing Ipswich.
Bacon was the son of Thomas Bacon of Burgate, Suffolk. He matriculated at Queens' College, Cambridge in 1615 and was admitted at Gray's Inn on 11 November 1617. He was a Justice of the Peace for Suffolk from 1636 to July 1660 and a Commissioner for assessment from 1644 to 1652 and again in 1657.
In 1645, Bacon was elected Member of Parliament for Ipswich in a by-election to the Long Parliament. He was secluded in 1648 when Pride's Purge occurred.
In 1660, Bacon was re-elected MP for Ipswich in the Convention Parliament.
He died in 1663 and was buried at Burgate.
He married Dorothy Hobart, daughter of Sir Henry Hobart, 1st Baronet. They had several children including a son, Sir Henry Bacon, who became a baronet.
