Fiji Week
Fiji Week is an annual celebration, typically observed during the week surrounding Fijian Independence Day on October 10th. It is a period dedicated to showcasing Fijian culture, heritage, and national pride. Events held during Fiji Week may include traditional dance performances (meke), music concerts, kava ceremonies, feasts featuring Fijian cuisine (lovo), arts and crafts displays, sporting events, and educational workshops. The celebrations often extend beyond Fiji itself, with Fijian diaspora communities around the world organizing similar events to maintain and promote their cultural identity. Fiji Week serves as an important occasion for Fijians to connect with their roots, celebrate their nation’s independence, and share their rich cultural heritage with others. It also aims to foster national unity and a sense of belonging amongst Fijians both within and outside of Fiji.
