Owlbear
An owlbear is a fictional creature, typically depicted as a hybrid of an owl and a bear. The specific characteristics vary depending on the fictional setting, but generally include the body of a bear (usually brown or black bear) and the head of an owl, complete with a beak and feathered facial disc. Owlbears are often portrayed as ferocious and territorial predators.
They are commonly found in fantasy literature, role-playing games (most notably Dungeons & Dragons), and video games. Within these settings, owlbears are often described as being aggressive, solitary creatures that inhabit forests, caves, or other wilderness areas. Their origin is often shrouded in mystery, sometimes attributed to magical experimentation or simply a strange evolutionary anomaly.
The owlbear's primary mode of attack is usually described as physical, using its powerful claws and beak. Some depictions also imbue the creature with enhanced senses, reflecting the predatory nature of both bears and owls.
The creature's popularity in fantasy genres has led to its inclusion in numerous works and its recognition as a classic fantasy monster.
