Mark Davies (Bishop of Shrewsbury)
Mark Davies is the current Roman Catholic Bishop of Shrewsbury. He was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI in December 2010 and ordained to the episcopate in February 2011. As Bishop of Shrewsbury, he leads the Diocese of Shrewsbury, which encompasses much of Cheshire, Shropshire, and parts of Greater Manchester and Merseyside in England.
Davies was born in Manchester in 1959. He received his priestly formation at St Cuthbert's College, Ushaw, and was ordained to the priesthood in 1984 for the Diocese of Shrewsbury. Prior to his appointment as bishop, he served in various pastoral roles within the diocese, including parish priest and vocations director.
As Bishop of Shrewsbury, Davies is actively involved in various aspects of diocesan life, including the administration of the diocese, the spiritual care of its members, and engagement in social justice issues. He is known for his commitment to Catholic education and for promoting vocations to the priesthood and religious life. He is a member of the Bishops' Conference of England and Wales and participates in its work on various committees.
