Fardhem

Fardhem is a parish on the island of Gotland, Sweden. It is located in the southwest part of the island, belonging to the Diocese of Visby. The area is known for its relatively fertile soil and historical significance.

The name "Fardhem" is believed to derive from the Old Gutnish words "farth" (meaning "journey" or "way") and "hem" (meaning "home" or "settlement"). Therefore, the name suggests a place that was a stopping point or a settlement along a significant route or path.

Historically, Fardhem has been an agricultural area. The parish church, Fardhem Church, dates back to the 13th century and contains notable medieval frescoes. Archaeological findings in the area also indicate habitation dating back to the Iron Age and Viking Age.

Today, Fardhem is primarily a rural community with a focus on agriculture and tourism. It forms part of the larger Gotland Municipality.
