Evander (crater)
Evander is an impact crater located on the surface of Dione, a moon of Saturn. It is situated in the southern hemisphere of Dione, at approximately 54.7° South latitude and 12.7° West longitude. Evander is characterized by its bowl-shaped depression and relatively well-defined rim. Like many craters on Dione, it is thought to have formed from the impact of a smaller body, such as an asteroid or comet, colliding with Dione's icy surface. The ejecta blanket, the material ejected during the impact event, surrounds the crater. The study of craters like Evander provides valuable information about the age and history of Dione's surface and the bombardment history of the Saturnian system. Its name is derived from Evander, a figure in Greek mythology, known as a culture hero who brought the alphabet and laws to Italy.
