NGC 378
NGC 378 is a barred spiral galaxy located in the constellation Sculptor. It is estimated to be approximately 157 million light-years away from Earth. The galaxy was discovered on September 28, 1834, by John Herschel.
NGC 378 is classified as SBbc, indicating a barred spiral galaxy with loosely wound spiral arms. Its apparent magnitude is around 13.5, making it a relatively faint object that typically requires a moderate to large telescope to observe visually.
The galaxy is part of the Sculptor Group, a loose group of galaxies associated with the nearby Sculptor Galaxy (NGC 253). These galaxies are gravitationally bound and interact with each other over time. The Sculptor Group is one of the closest galaxy groups to the Local Group, which contains our own Milky Way galaxy.
