Javier Esparza (politician)

Javier Esparza Abaurrea (born 1970) is a Spanish politician. He is the current president of the Navarrese People's Union (UPN), a regionalist political party in Navarre, Spain.

Esparza was born in Pamplona. He holds a degree in Law from the University of Navarra.

He has held various political positions within UPN and the Navarrese government. He served as a Member of the Parliament of Navarre, representing UPN. He also served as Minister of Rural Development, Environment and Local Administration in the Government of Navarre.

Esparza became the president of UPN in 2015. As leader of the party, he has focused on defending the foral rights of Navarre and advocating for its place within Spain. He has been a prominent voice against Basque nationalism and its influence in Navarrese politics. He has led UPN in several regional elections. His political positions are generally considered centre-right.
