Willie Gibson (footballer, born 1953)
Willie Gibson (born 18 September 1953) is a Scottish former professional footballer who played as a midfielder.
Gibson began his career with Hibernian, where he made a significant impact, becoming known for his skillful play and creative passing. He featured prominently in the Hibs squad during the 1970s.
After a successful spell at Hibernian, Gibson moved south to England, joining Leicester City. He continued to display his midfield talents, contributing to the Foxes' performances in the English First Division.
Gibson also played for Manchester United in the late 1970s, a period where he sought further challenges. He was unable to consistently hold down a first-team place at Old Trafford and subsequently moved on.
Following his time at Manchester United, Gibson returned to Scotland and played for Dundee United. He spent a number of seasons with the Tannadice club, where he enjoyed a successful period, winning the Scottish Premier Division title in 1983. This was a landmark achievement in Dundee United's history.
Gibson's career also included a spell with Partick Thistle, further demonstrating his commitment to Scottish football.
He later retired from professional football, having enjoyed a lengthy and successful career. Gibson is remembered as a talented midfielder who contributed significantly to each of the clubs he represented, most notably Hibernian and Dundee United.
