Eton mess

Eton mess is a traditional English dessert consisting of a mixture of meringue, whipped cream, and strawberries. It is named after Eton College, where it is believed to have originated.

The exact origins of Eton mess are debated, but the most common story is that it was accidentally created at a cricket match between Eton College and Harrow School when a pavlova or meringue dessert was dropped or crushed. Rather than waste the ingredients, it was served in its broken, mixed-up state.

Eton mess is typically served in individual portions, often in glasses or bowls. While strawberries are the classic and most common fruit used, other fruits, such as raspberries, blueberries, or bananas, can sometimes be incorporated as variations. The meringue is usually broken into smaller pieces, adding texture to the dessert.
