Edward Russell (Maine politician)
Edward Russell (1833-1915) was an American politician and lawyer from Maine. He served as a United States Representative for Maine's 3rd congressional district from 1875 to 1879, during the 44th and 45th Congresses.
Born in Plymouth, Massachusetts, Russell moved to Belfast, Maine, with his family in 1836. He graduated from Bowdoin College in 1854, studied law, and was admitted to the bar in 1857. He began his legal practice in Belfast.
Prior to his Congressional service, Russell held several local and state offices. He served as city solicitor of Belfast, a member of the Maine House of Representatives, and a member of the Maine State Senate. He was also the Attorney General of Maine from 1872 to 1875.
In Congress, Russell was a Republican. After his Congressional term, he resumed his legal practice in Belfast and remained active in Maine Republican politics.
