James Butler (sprinter)

James Butler is a former American sprinter who specialized in the 400 meters. He is best known for his performances as a member of the United States relay teams during the 1970s.

Butler competed in the 1976 Montreal Olympics as part of the gold-medal winning 4 x 400 meter relay team. The American team, which also included Herman Frazier, Benjamin Brown, and Fred Newhouse, finished with a time of 2:59.20. He did not compete individually in the 400 meters at the Olympics.

Beyond the Olympics, Butler also represented the United States in other international competitions, contributing to the success of American relay teams.
