Dominic Smith is an Australian-American author known for his historical fiction novels. Born in Sydney, Australia in 1968, he spent his childhood in the United States and later returned to Australia before eventually settling back in the US. Smith’s writing frequently explores themes of family secrets, historical mysteries, and the complexities of human relationships, often set against meticulously researched historical backdrops.

His notable works include The Last Painting of Sara de Vos (2016), a novel that weaves together three separate narratives connected by a lost painting; Bright and Distant Shores (2002), which explores the history of whaling in the 19th century; The Beautiful Miscellaneous (2007), focusing on a family grappling with the mystery of a son's savant abilities; and Return to Valetto (2024), a mystery set in Italy involving a family's ancestral home.
