David Murray (1748–1794)
David Murray (1748 – February 23, 1794) was a Scottish judge and politician. He served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Perth Burghs from 1783 to 1790 and as a Lord of Session under the judicial title Lord Henderland from 1783 until his death.
Born to James Murray of Strowan, he was educated at Edinburgh University and admitted to the Faculty of Advocates in 1768. He quickly established a successful legal practice.
Murray's parliamentary career was relatively brief, covering a single term. He gained a reputation as a capable and respected, if not particularly flamboyant, parliamentarian.
Appointed a Lord of Session in 1783, he took the title Lord Henderland, reflecting the name of his estate. As a judge, he was known for his diligence and sound legal judgment.
He died in Edinburgh in 1794. He was married to Margaret Smythe, daughter of Michael Smythe of Methven, and they had several children. His descendants included prominent figures in law and politics.
