Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton Railway (1926–1930)

The Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton Railway (1926–1930) represents the final, brief period of independent operation for the Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton Railway (CH&D). The original CH&D, formed in 1846, had entered receivership several times prior to this period and was eventually acquired by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (B&O).

Following earlier financial difficulties and reorganizations, the CH&D was again placed in receivership in 1905 and subsequently acquired by the B&O in 1917. However, due to various legal and financial considerations, the B&O operated the CH&D under its original corporate name until 1926.

From 1926 to 1930, the CH&D existed as a separate corporate entity, still effectively controlled by the B&O but with its own accounting and operational structure. This period was characterized by continued efforts to improve efficiency and profitability on the CH&D lines under B&O management.

In 1930, the Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton Railway was formally merged into the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, ceasing to exist as a distinct railway company. This marked the end of the CH&D's independent existence and fully integrated its operations into the B&O system.
