Dave Pike

Dave Pike (born March 23, 1938, Detroit, Michigan – died October 3, 2015, Munich, Germany) was an American jazz vibraphonist, drummer, and bandleader. He was known for his innovative and eclectic approach to jazz, incorporating elements of Latin, Brazilian, and other world music traditions.

Pike began his musical career as a drummer before switching to the vibraphone. He gained significant recognition in the early 1960s working with Herbie Mann, showcasing his virtuosity and rhythmic complexity. Following his stint with Mann, Pike formed his own groups, exploring a diverse range of styles.

His discography includes numerous albums as a leader, often featuring collaborations with prominent musicians across various genres. He was known for his distinctive sound and his ability to seamlessly blend different musical influences. His work contributed significantly to the development of jazz fusion and remains influential in the jazz vibraphone community.
