Daniel Adams (physician)
Daniel Adams (1785-1864) was an American physician and textbook author. He is best known for his arithmetic textbook, Adams' New Arithmetic, which was widely used in American schools throughout the 19th century.
Adams was born in Townsend, Massachusetts. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1807 and received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in 1811. He practiced medicine in Mont Vernon, New Hampshire for many years.
While practicing medicine, Adams began writing textbooks. His arithmetic book proved exceptionally popular and was revised and reprinted multiple times. In addition to arithmetic, Adams also authored geography textbooks and other educational materials. His success as an author provided him with financial security, allowing him to dedicate more time to writing and less to his medical practice in later years.
