Sollac

Sollac was a major French steel company, formed in 1948 as a result of the Monnet Plan. It was a key player in the post-World War II reconstruction and industrialization of France, contributing significantly to the French steel industry's modernization and expansion.

Sollac operated primarily in the Lorraine region of France, a traditional center for steel production due to its abundant iron ore deposits. The company was involved in the entire steel production process, from raw materials to finished products.

Over time, Sollac underwent several mergers and acquisitions, reflecting the consolidation trends within the global steel industry. It eventually became part of Arcelor, a multinational steel company formed in 2002 through the merger of Sollac, Aceralia (Spain), and Usinor (France). Arcelor itself was later acquired by Mittal Steel in 2006, forming ArcelorMittal, one of the world's largest steel producers.

The legacy of Sollac remains in the infrastructure and industrial activity of the Lorraine region and in the technologies and expertise that were incorporated into ArcelorMittal. While the Sollac name is no longer in active use, its historical significance as a cornerstone of the French steel industry is undeniable.
