Dance with Me (2019 Japanese film)
Dance with Me is a 2019 Japanese musical comedy film directed by Shinobu Yaguchi. The film follows Shizuka Suzuki (Ayaka Miyoshi), a seemingly ordinary office worker who develops an uncontrollable urge to sing and dance whenever she hears music after undergoing hypnosis.
Shizuka leads a stable, if somewhat uninspired, life. She is dedicated to her job at a large corporation and harbors a secret crush on her dashing colleague, Shinjiro Murakami (Yuya Takeuchi). One day, she reluctantly accompanies her niece to a hypnotist's session. During the session, Shizuka is accidentally hypnotized and given the suggestion that she will automatically sing and dance whenever music plays.
Following the hypnosis, Shizuka's life is turned upside down. Everyday situations become opportunities for spontaneous musical performances, much to her embarrassment and frustration. She struggles to control her newfound compulsion and desperately seeks a way to reverse the hypnosis. Her attempts to find the hypnotist who cursed her lead her on a chaotic and musical journey, encountering various eccentric characters along the way.
The film features a variety of musical styles, including pop, jazz, and traditional Japanese music. It is known for its lighthearted tone, energetic dance numbers, and Ayaka Miyoshi's comedic performance. Dance with Me explores themes of self-discovery, embracing spontaneity, and finding joy in unexpected circumstances. The film was generally well-received for its originality, humor, and musical performances.
