Dallas Texans (NFL)

The Dallas Texans were an American professional football team that played in the National Football League (NFL) for only one season, 1952. The franchise was based in Dallas, Texas.

Founded by Giles Miller, the Texans were awarded an NFL franchise in 1952 in an effort to gain a foothold for the league in the Southwest. However, the team was plagued by poor attendance, a weak roster, and a lack of local support. Their home games were played at the Cotton Bowl.

The Texans struggled on the field, finishing the season with a record of 1 win and 11 losses. Midway through the season, facing severe financial difficulties, the NFL took control of the franchise. The team's remaining games were effectively played as a traveling team, often referred to as the "NFL Texans."

Following the disastrous 1952 season, the NFL terminated the Dallas Texans franchise. The league decided to re-establish a presence in the region later, ultimately leading to the relocation of the Baltimore Colts to Dallas to become the Dallas Cowboys in 1960. Thus, the original Dallas Texans were a short-lived and largely unsuccessful experiment in expanding the NFL's reach.
