Crowded (comic book)
Crowded is an American comic book series created by Christopher Sebela, Ro Stein, and Ted Brandt, and published by Image Comics. The series is set in a near-future Los Angeles where assassination is legal and crowd-funded.
The story revolves around Charlie Ellison, a woman struggling with her life, who suddenly becomes the target of a one-million-dollar crowdfunding assassination campaign on an app called "CrowdKill." Facing almost certain death, Charlie hires Vita Quinn, a bankrupt bodyguard with a terrible rating on DProtect, a bodyguard rating app. The series follows their unlikely partnership and struggles for survival as they evade relentless assassins.
Crowded explores themes of economic inequality, social media obsession, the commodification of violence, and the gig economy. The series is notable for its dynamic art style and its sharp social commentary.
The first issue was released in August 2018, and the series ran for twelve issues, concluding in August 2019. A sequel series, Newburn, co-created by Sebela and Brandt, focusing on a different aspect of the same universe, was launched in 2021.
