The Snowman (2017 film)
The Snowman is a 2017 British psychological thriller film directed by Tomas Alfredson and starring Michael Fassbender, Rebecca Ferguson, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Val Kilmer. Based on the 2007 novel of the same name by Jo Nesbø, the film follows detective Harry Hole as he investigates the disappearance of women in Oslo, Norway, whose disappearances coincide with the appearance of snowmen at the crime scenes.
The film's plot centers on Hole's investigation into a serial killer who taunts him with cryptic messages and photographs left at the scenes. The killer seems to be targeting women with connections to family secrets and broken homes. Hole, struggling with alcoholism and personal demons, must piece together the clues and confront his own past to stop the killer before he strikes again.
Production of The Snowman faced numerous challenges, including a rushed shooting schedule and creative differences between the director and studio. Much of the filming took place on location in Norway. The film received overwhelmingly negative reviews upon its release, with critics citing a convoluted plot, poor pacing, and a lack of suspense. Fassbender's performance was also criticized for being uninspired. The film was a box office disappointment.
