County Seat (store)

County Seat was a United States-based retail chain specializing in casual clothing, primarily denim and related apparel. Founded in 1968, the stores typically operated in shopping malls across the country, targeting a youth and young adult demographic. The brand was known for its large selection of jeans in various styles, fits, and washes, often carrying popular denim brands as well as its own private label. In addition to jeans, County Seat offered shirts, jackets, and other casual wear items. The company was acquired by various entities over the years, including Carson Pirie Scott & Co. and later, in 1999, by The Wet Seal, Inc. Following the acquisition by Wet Seal, County Seat stores were gradually phased out, with the remaining locations converted to Wet Seal stores or closed entirely. The County Seat brand effectively ceased to exist as a standalone retail entity in the early 2000s.
