Marwat

Marwat is a Pashtun tribe primarily located in the southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan, particularly in Lakki Marwat District, which is named after them. They are also found in parts of Tank District and other regions of Pakistan.

The Marwat trace their lineage to Karlani, a prominent ancestor in the Pashtun genealogical tree. Historically, the Marwat were known for their fierce independence and warrior traditions. They played a significant role in various historical events in the region, often engaging in conflicts with neighboring tribes and empires.

Socially, the Marwat adhere to Pashtunwali, the traditional Pashtun code of conduct, which emphasizes honor, hospitality, and revenge. Agriculture is a primary occupation for many Marwat, with land ownership playing a crucial role in their social structure. Like other Pashtun tribes, the Marwat are further divided into sub-tribes and clans, each with its own internal dynamics and leadership. They generally speak Pashto as their native language.
