Cimarron City (TV series)
Cimarron City is an American Western television series that aired for one season on NBC from 1958 to 1959. The series starred George Montgomery as Matt Rockford, the mayor of the growing town of Cimarron City, Oklahoma Territory. Audrey Totter co-starred as Beth Purcell, the owner of the town's hotel and saloon.
The show focused on the challenges of building and maintaining a civilized community in the untamed West. Plots often involved land disputes, cattle rustling, conflicts with Native Americans, and the efforts to establish law and order. The series was known for its action sequences and its depiction of the everyday lives of the residents of Cimarron City.
John Smith joined the cast mid-season as Deputy Sheriff Lane Temple. The show attempted to boost ratings with this addition, but it was ultimately canceled after 26 episodes. Notable guest stars included Jack Elam, Claude Akins, and Stuart Whitman.
The series was produced by Revue Studios, which later became Universal Television. Although short-lived, Cimarron City is remembered as a solid example of the numerous Westerns that dominated American television during the late 1950s.
