Chachkava

A chachkava (also transliterated as tschatschkava or tchatchkeva) is a Yiddish word referring to a small, often inexpensive, ornament, trinket, or bauble. It is synonymous with words like knick-knack, gewgaw, tchotchke, or trinket. Chachkavas are typically decorative rather than functional, and often displayed on shelves, mantels, or other visible surfaces. The term can sometimes imply an excessive collection of such items, or a fondness for collecting such objects. While generally considered harmless, the accumulation of too many chachkavas can be seen as clutter. The word itself is of uncertain origin.
