My Tracks
My Tracks was a discontinued GPS tracking mobile app developed by Google for the Android operating system. It allowed users to record their outdoor activities, such as walking, running, cycling, and driving, using their mobile device's GPS capabilities. The app captured data like speed, distance, elevation, and heart rate (if paired with compatible sensors).
My Tracks provided users with detailed visualizations of their recorded routes on Google Maps, along with statistical summaries of their activities. Data could be exported in various formats (GPX, KML, CSV, TCX) for use in other mapping or analysis applications. Users could also share their tracks publicly or privately.
Google announced the discontinuation of My Tracks in 2016, citing a focus on developing other fitness-related apps like Google Fit. The service was officially shut down on April 30, 2016, and users were advised to export their data before that date.
While no longer available, My Tracks represented an early example of mobile GPS tracking applications and contributed to the development of more sophisticated fitness and location-based services.
