Tom Davis (basketball player)

Tom Davis is a former American college basketball coach and player. He is best known for his coaching tenures at Boston College, Stanford University, the University of Iowa, and Drake University.

Davis played college basketball at Bowie State University, a historically Black university in Maryland. He began his coaching career as an assistant coach at several institutions before landing his first head coaching job at Clark University in 1972.

His notable coaching achievements include leading Boston College to the NCAA Tournament in the early 1980s, and rebuilding the Iowa Hawkeyes basketball program into a consistent Big Ten contender during his tenure from 1986 to 1999. At Iowa, he compiled a record of 269-140 and led the Hawkeyes to nine NCAA Tournament appearances.

Davis was known for his offensive strategies and his ability to recruit and develop talented players. He retired from coaching in 2007 after a stint at Drake University.
