Catch Me If You Can (musical)

Catch Me If You Can is a musical with music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Shaiman and Scott Wittman, and a book by Terrence McNally. The musical is based on the 2002 Steven Spielberg film of the same name, which in turn was based on the purportedly autobiographical book of the same name by Frank Abagnale Jr.

The plot follows the adventures of Frank Abagnale Jr., a teenage con artist who successfully posed as a pilot, doctor, and lawyer while cashing fraudulent checks worth millions of dollars. He is pursued by FBI agent Carl Hanratty, who gradually develops a grudging respect for Frank's ingenuity. The musical explores themes of family, identity, and the desire for connection.

The musical premiered at the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle in July 2009, starring Aaron Tveit and Norbert Leo Butz. It then opened on Broadway at the Neil Simon Theatre in April 2011, with Tveit and Butz reprising their roles. The production received mixed reviews but ran for 166 performances. Norbert Leo Butz won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his performance as Carl Hanratty. The musical has subsequently been produced in regional theaters and schools.
