Bobili
Bobili is a town located in the Vizianagaram district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is historically significant as the site of the Battle of Bobbili in 1757, a pivotal event in the history of the Northern Circars.
Historically, Bobili was the capital of the Bobbili Zamindari, a powerful and influential estate in the region. The Zamindari played a significant role in the political landscape of the Northern Circars during the 18th century.
The Battle of Bobbili, fought between the Bobbili forces and the army of Vijaya Rama Raju of Vizianagaram, aided by the French General Bussy, is remembered for its fierce resistance and tragic outcome. The story of the battle has been retold through various forms of art and literature, becoming a part of Telugu folklore.
The town of Bobili now serves as a municipality and is an important commercial and agricultural center in the Vizianagaram district. It is connected to other parts of Andhra Pradesh through road and rail networks. While the remnants of the fort associated with the battle remain, they are in a state of disrepair.
