Bill Marx (pianist)

Bill Marx (born William Horvitz, April 12, 1937, Los Angeles, California – died February 13, 2024, Los Angeles, California) was an American pianist, composer, arranger, and bandleader. He was the son of Harpo Marx of the Marx Brothers comedy team.

Marx was primarily known for his easy listening and light jazz recordings. He formed the Bill Marx Trio in the late 1950s, achieving success in the 1960s with instrumental hits such as "Spanish Eyes" (a cover version of Bert Kaempfert's tune) and "Theme from 'A Place in the Sun'". He released numerous albums throughout his career, often featuring arrangements of popular songs alongside original compositions.

Beyond his recording career, Marx worked extensively in television and film, contributing music to soundtracks and performing on screen. He also served as musical director for various stage productions and entertainment events. His style, while commercially oriented, displayed technical proficiency and a melodic sensibility that resonated with a broad audience.
