Betzdorf (Verbandsgemeinde)
The Verbandsgemeinde Betzdorf is a collective municipality in the district of Altenkirchen (Westerwald) in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. A Verbandsgemeinde is a type of administrative division unique to Rhineland-Palatinate.
The Verbandsgemeinde Betzdorf administers the following constituent municipalities (Ortsgemeinden):
- Alsdorf
- Betzdorf (the seat of the Verbandsgemeinde administration)
- Grünebach
- Scheuerfeld
The administration building is located in Betzdorf. The primary functions of the Verbandsgemeinde administration are to provide local services that individual municipalities are too small or inefficient to provide themselves. These services can include infrastructure maintenance (roads, water, sewage), schools, fire departments, planning and building control, and social services.
The Verbandsgemeinde system aims to strengthen local government by pooling resources and expertise, enabling smaller municipalities to maintain a higher level of service provision. The individual Ortsgemeinden retain a degree of autonomy and are responsible for their own local affairs.
