Umm Jamil

Umm Jamil (Arabic: أم جميل) was the kunya (epithet) given to Arwa bint Harb, the wife of Abu Lahab, an uncle of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. She is a prominent figure in Islamic tradition, particularly within the Quran, where she is condemned in Surah Al-Masad (Chapter 111).

According to Islamic sources, Umm Jamil was known for her hostility and opposition towards Muhammad and the early Muslim community. She is said to have actively persecuted Muhammad by spreading lies about him and casting thorns and debris in his path. The Quranic verse refers to her as "the carrier of firewood" and mentions "a rope of palm fiber around her neck," often interpreted as metaphors for her malicious actions and the burden of her sins.

Her condemnation in the Quran is often cited in Islamic discourse to illustrate the gravity of opposing the message of Islam and harming its followers. She is remembered as a symbol of evil and opposition to good within Islamic history.
