Snot (band)
Snot was an American nu metal band formed in Santa Barbara, California in 1995. The band released only one studio album, Get Some, in 1997, before disbanding following the death of vocalist Lynn Strait in a car accident in 1998.
The band's sound was characterized by a blend of funk, hardcore punk, and heavy metal influences, often compared to bands like Rage Against the Machine and Korn, but with a more distinct emphasis on groove and raw energy. Get Some received critical acclaim for its aggressive sound and introspective lyrics, exploring themes of anger, frustration, and personal struggle.
Following Strait's death, the surviving members briefly formed a band called Dubcat, but eventually reformed Snot with various guest vocalists for tribute shows and occasional tours. In the years following, there have been several attempts to revive the band with different singers, including Tommy Vext (Bad Wolves), but none proved permanent. A second studio album, Strait Up, featuring vocals by various guest artists in tribute to Lynn Strait, was released in 2000.
Snot's influence can be seen in subsequent generations of nu metal and alternative metal bands, who have cited their unique blend of styles and uncompromising attitude as an inspiration. Despite their short lifespan, the band has maintained a dedicated following and is considered a cult favorite within the genre.
