Andy Scott (saxophonist and composer)

Andy Scott (born c. 1966) is a British saxophonist and composer, known for his virtuosic playing, genre-bending compositions, and contributions to both classical and contemporary music. He is a specialist in contemporary saxophone techniques and has premiered numerous works for the instrument.

Scott is particularly recognized for his work with the Apollo Saxophone Quartet, which he co-founded in 1985 and with which he toured extensively and recorded numerous albums. The Apollo Saxophone Quartet is known for its innovative programming and commissioning of new works, significantly expanding the saxophone quartet repertoire.

In addition to his quartet work, Scott enjoys a successful solo career, performing as a soloist with orchestras and ensembles around the world. He is also active as a composer, writing music for saxophone, wind band, and various chamber ensembles. His compositions are often characterized by their rhythmic complexity, melodic invention, and exploration of extended techniques.
