Sanjay Kumar (business executive)
Sanjay Kumar is a business executive best known for his tenure as CEO of Computer Associates (CA), now known as CA Technologies, from 2000 to 2004. His career at CA began in 1987, rising through the ranks to eventually lead the company.
During his leadership, Computer Associates faced allegations of accounting irregularities. These allegations centered around prematurely recognizing revenue from long-term contracts to inflate the company's financial performance.
In 2006, Kumar pleaded guilty to securities fraud and obstruction of justice in connection with the accounting scandal. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison and ordered to pay over $800 million in restitution. The case significantly damaged Computer Associates' reputation and resulted in substantial financial penalties for the company.
Following his release from prison, Kumar has largely remained out of the public eye. His legacy is primarily tied to the Computer Associates scandal and serves as a cautionary tale in business ethics and corporate governance.
