The Collectors (Japanese band)
The Collectors are a Japanese mod revival band formed in Tokyo in 1986. Known for their distinctive 1960s-influenced mod style, both in their music and visual presentation, they are one of the longest-running and most influential mod bands in Japan.
The band consists of:
- Hisashi Kato (加藤ひさし): Vocals, Guitar
- Masaya Suzuki (古市コータロー): Guitar
- Satoshi Abe (阿部耕作): Drums
- Kensuke Chiba (千葉“beans”洋一): Bass
Musically, The Collectors draw heavily from British Invasion bands such as The Who, The Kinks, and The Small Faces, incorporating elements of garage rock, psychedelic pop, and power pop into their sound. Lyrically, their songs often explore themes of youth, rebellion, and the mod lifestyle.
The Collectors have released numerous albums throughout their career, including "虹色サーカス団" (Nijiiro Circus Dan), "僕はコレクター" (Boku wa Collector), and "青春ミラー(キミを想う季節)" (Seishun Mirror (Kimi wo Omou Kisetsu)). They have also performed extensively in Japan and have a dedicated fanbase. Their consistent dedication to the mod aesthetic and their energetic live performances have solidified their position as a significant force in the Japanese music scene. The band celebrated their 30th anniversary in 2016 with a special concert and album release.
