John Mitchell (Being Human)
John Mitchell is a fictional character in the British supernatural drama series Being Human, played by Aidan Turner. He is a vampire striving for a normal life and attempting to abstain from drinking human blood.
Mitchell, born in 1888, was turned into a vampire during World War I after a violent encounter on the Western Front. Haunted by his past actions as a soldier and now a creature of the night, he seeks redemption and yearns to live a peaceful existence, despite the constant struggle against his bloodlust.
Alongside his roommates, George Sands (a werewolf) and Annie Sawyer (a ghost), Mitchell tries to navigate the complexities of human society while concealing their supernatural identities. His character arc revolves around his attempts to control his violent nature, his complicated relationships with other vampires, particularly Herrick, and his ultimately tragic romantic life. He constantly battles the inherent darkness within him, causing significant internal conflict and shaping his decisions throughout the series. Mitchell's desire for humanity is a central theme in Being Human, highlighting the challenges of overcoming one's nature and the difficulty of integrating into a world that fears and misunderstands the supernatural. He is known for his brooding personality, strong sense of loyalty, and occasional lapses in judgment when consumed by his vampire instincts.
