Oliver Twist (1962 TV serial)
The Oliver Twist (1962 TV serial) was a British television adaptation of Charles Dickens' novel Oliver Twist. Produced by the BBC, it was a 13-part series airing in the United Kingdom. The serial starred Bruce Prochnik as Oliver Twist and Max Adrian as Fagin.
The series followed the plot of the original novel, depicting the life of Oliver Twist, an orphan born in a workhouse, his experiences with Fagin and his gang of pickpockets in London, and his eventual rescue by benevolent figures. It was known for its faithful adaptation of the source material and its gritty portrayal of Victorian London.
The 1962 adaptation, like many television adaptations of Dickens' work at the time, aimed to bring classic literature to a wider audience through the medium of television. Due to the limitations of archiving practices at the time, few episodes of the serial are known to survive in their entirety.
