HMS Doon
HMS Doon was a Royal Navy river gunboat of the Doon class. Built by Yarrow Shipbuilders, she was launched in 1915 and served primarily in Mesopotamia during World War I. These shallow-draft vessels were designed for operations on rivers, specifically the Tigris and Euphrates.
Doon and her sister ships provided fire support for military operations, transported troops and supplies, and patrolled the waterways to maintain control and security. The Doon class gunboats were vital to the British campaign in Mesopotamia, enabling navigation and combat effectiveness in challenging riverine environments. Specific details regarding the Doon's individual service history, beyond her general role within the Mesopotamia campaign, are often limited in readily available historical records.
